Privacy Policy
Last updated May 26, 2026
This policy explains what information Threadwell collects, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the choices and rights you have. We built Threadwell to help you understand your clothes — not to harvest your data. We do not sell your personal information, and we never run ads.
1. Who we are
Threadwell (“Threadwell,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is operated by Threadwell. This policy applies to the Threadwell mobile app and this website (together, the “Service”). If you have any questions, contact us at privacy@threadwell.app.
2. Information we collect
Account information
You can use Threadwell anonymously. If you choose to create an account or sign in, we collect the information you provide through Sign in with Apple, Google, or email — typically your name (or a display name) and email address. This lets you sync your closet across devices and keep your history.
Your skin & health profile (optional)
Threadwell lets you build an optional profile to personalize your results. This may include sensitive health-related information such as:
- Skin conditions (for example eczema, acne-prone skin, psoriasis, rosacea)
- Fabric allergies (for example wool, latex, azo dyes, formaldehyde)
- Sensitivities you want to avoid (for example microplastics, fragrance, chemical finishes)
- Whether clothing has caused reactions for you in the past
We only collect this information with your explicit, opt-in consent, we use it solely to personalize your scores and advisories, and you can review or delete it at any time.
Scans, photos, and wardrobe data
When you scan a care label or analyze a product link, we process the label text or page content to identify the garment's fiber composition, certifications, origin, and care details, and we store the resulting item in your closet. Camera and photo-library access is used only to read labels you point at. We do not store label images without your consent.
Preferences
Values you care about (such as durability, animal welfare, ethical labor, or minimalism), certification preferences, shopping frequency, and app settings such as your theme.
Purchases
If you buy an optional subscription, the purchase is processed by Apple or Google through their in-app purchase systems and managed with the help of our paywall provider (Superwall). We receive confirmation of your subscription status but never receive or store your full payment card details.
Device & technical data
To operate the app reliably we may process a device push token (if you enable notifications), app version and build number, and basic diagnostic information. Threadwell does not use advertising identifiers (IDFA), does not include third-party advertising SDKs, and does not collect your precise location.
3. How we use your information
- To generate scores, ratings, and advisories for the items you scan;
- To personalize those results around your skin profile and values;
- To save your closet and sync it across your devices;
- To provide customer support and respond to your requests;
- To process subscriptions and prevent fraud or abuse;
- To maintain, secure, and improve the Service;
- To comply with legal obligations.
4. Legal bases for processing
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on: your consent for your optional skin and health profile and for push notifications; performance of a contract to provide the core Service you request; and our legitimate interests in keeping the Service secure and improving it. You can withdraw consent at any time.
5. How your information is shared
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers who help us run Threadwell, under contracts that limit their use of it:
- Supabase — secure cloud hosting, database, storage, and authentication;
- Superwall — subscription paywall and purchase management;
- Apple and Google — sign-in and in-app purchase processing.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the Service.
6. Automated analysis of labels
Threadwell uses automated processing to read the text of care labels and product pages and to estimate fabric and sustainability attributes. These results are informational estimates to help you make decisions — they are not medical, dermatological, or professional advice. Always follow the guidance of a qualified professional for any health concern.
7. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data, except where we must retain it to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes. Anonymous, aggregated data that no longer identifies you may be retained.
8. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. You can:
- Edit or remove your skin profile and preferences in the app;
- Delete your account and associated data — see our Account & Data Deletion page;
- Email us at privacy@threadwell.app to make any other request.
We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
9. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards — including encryption in transit, access controls, and encrypted device storage for credentials — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your data and to promptly address any issues.
10. Children's privacy
Threadwell is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. International transfers
Your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
